Our Backpacks

Many children rely on school cafeterias for their most nutritious meal of the day. In some cases, this may be the only meal a child receives. Each Friday afternoon during the school year, kids are discreetly and confidentially provided a food filled backpack to ensure they have something to eat during the weekend.  Backpack food programs have been shown to increase attendance, decrease behavior problems, improve concentration abilities of students and improve student academic achievement.  For just $225 a school year per student, we are able to provide at least one source of grain, fruit, vegetable, and protein through a variety of staple meal items, breakfast foods, and healthy snacks in a discreet child’s backpack.

With donated monies we are able to purchase our food at a discount from Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn, Maine. What a wonderful program for children which provides nutrition, eases their anxieties, reduces absenteeism, improves attention span, raises academic performance and increases self esteem.

We offer four rotations of backpack food each month.
